    • LDS FamilySearch (http://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.2.1/94GY-7N3 : accessed 2013-10-12), entry for Lewis Thomas:

"Lewis was a farmer on Hardin Creek, Washington County, KY,--and a Methodist. He lived on a gravel road near the local Methodist meeting grounds and would call to passersby coming to the meeting grounds that his house was only 18 feet square, but that his heart was 100 feet square, thus welcoming them to his home. On Apr. 4, 1817, he deeded to the Methodist Church, for one cent consideration, an acre of land, including the church building thereon.

Washington County, Kentucky, Will Book, p.43: 'Lewis Thomas, a captain in the Continental Line of Virginia made application for his bounty land in 1801.'

Washington County, Kentucky, Nov. 4, 1819: 'Lewis Thomas, aged 67, states that he enlisted May 17, 1779, and received a Lieutenant's commission in the State of Pennsylvania in the 9th Virginia Regiment, commanded by Co. John Gispar in the line of the State of Virginia on Continental Establishment, and served until 1783, when he was discharged in Winchester, Virginia. He was in the Battles of Germantown and Brandywine.'"

"Samuel Haycraft, 'A History of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and Its Surroundings,' (1869; Hardin County Historical Society, 1960), p. 124:

'LEWIS THOMAS, who resided on Hardin's creek, in Washington county, was a brother of HARDIN THOMAS. . . He belonged to the Methodist Episcopal Church. In those good old camp-meeting times one was held near his house. On those occasions hundreds, perhaps a thousand, attended who had no camp-building, and were dependent on the hospitality of all the neighborhood around; and LEWIS THOMAS living on the pebble road, as a living stream of humanity were passing his house, he ran out, and, with a cheerful voice, called on them to stop, adding that his house was only eighteen feet square, but that his heart was one hundred feet square.'"

I think that we can conclude that it is not possible for Lewis, son of Owen, to be the father of Lewis K. Thomas who married Sarah Fogle. Nor is it possible that he married Sarah Fogle. I do not know if his pension file names his wife who most researchers think was Mary Davies. Note that he names his only son Owen Davies Thomas. If I copied the whole pension file, I have misplaced it as it is not in my Lewis, son of Owen, file.

I hope you all agree with my conclusion. I have sorted other Thomas families in the Washington County area and through the process of elimination came up with detached Thomases.

Two males that I concluded were the probable children of Enos were Lewis K. Thomas and Isaac Thomas who married Mahala Whitehead.

Two of the female children that I concluded were the probable daughters of Enos are Lucretia Thomas** who married Hezekiah Thomas (son of John and hence first cousins) and Sarah "Sallie" Thomas who married Henry Thomas (son of John and hence first cousins). Sarah Bland is living next door to this Henry Thomas family in the 1830 census. I have not looked at deed records to see if she was living on land that belonged to Lewis K. Thomas prior to his death.

**Hezekiah Thomas m. Lucretia WALKER; the Hardin Co. court clerk recorded her name incorrectly in 1826. See the actual records in Hardin Co., KY, Book A, p.170, for clarification: Hardin County Clerk's Office Online Record Search <http://www.hccoky.org/>"
