"John Ambrose Thomas was born April 9, 1842, and joined the Confederate Army in 1861, under General Buckner, was captured at Ft. Donelson in 1862, and taken to Camp Morton, at Indianapolis, and there remained in prison for seven months, and then exchanged and took part in all of the battles under Hood and Joseph E. Johnston. Finally he surrendered under Dick Taylor, after the battle at Mobile, and came home in June, 1865. He married Lizzie Rees, and by her had three children--two sons and one daughter: Calvin F. Thomas, Fannie Thomas and Will Thomas."
