Shawnee resident Lydia Sipe, 87, died Sunday, April 9, at a local nursing home of natural causes. She was born July 21, 1918, in Drury County, MO, to Oliver and Caroline Mason-Hicks. She married Clayton Paul Sipe. Lydia was a homemaker. She enjoyed mission organization at Immanuel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by both parents; her husband Clayton on October 7, 2002; three brothers, Noah Hicks, Ora Hicks and Leo Hicks; four sisters, Viola Huffman, Mary Lofton, Amanda Sadler and Martha Lamb. Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Sue and her husband, Jimmie Dale Smith of Shawnee; her son, Clayton Paul Sipe, Jr. and his wife Jacque of Sugar land, Texas; two sisters, Inez and her husband Glenn Sigle and Ida Hopkins; four grandchildren, Clayton Paul Sipe, III, Adam Smith and wife Pam, Jay Smith and wife Monica, Karin and husband Matt Lawson; three great-grandchildren, Tim Smith, Dalton and Madigan Smith and numerous nieces and nephews. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery."
