    • Entered into the Durham Light Infantry as a boy but was "claimed" byhis
      brother Fred into the Royal Marines. He saw extensive servicethroughout
      the world including Egypt and North America. During the 1939-45 war
      worked behind Japanese lines in Burma with the volunteer " Force
      Viper" (a photograph of him in this role appears in "The RoyalMarines, The Admiralty Account of Their Achievement 1939-43, Page 48(1)"). Hated the moon due to experiences behind enemy lines whenoperations were extremely hazardous in its light. He finished hiscareer as a Sergeant but served as Colour Sergeant during the Burmesecampaign.
      On de-mob was employed as a bank messenger for Barclays Bank and livedabove the bank in Upper St., Islington and finally above the bank inStreatham Corner. He retired to Skegness where he died.
