- Find-A-Grave:
"Boone County Democrat, 1908:
We regret overlooking the obituary notice last week of one of the oldest and most highly esteemed pioneer ladies of the county. Mrs. Rebecca Long passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jackson Hull, near Luther, Tuesday, Jan. 14th. She was born in Clay county, Indiana, October 6, 1826, and was in her 82nd year at the time of her death. At the age of 18 she was married to Benjamin Payne and to them was born one daughter, Mrs. Jackson Hull. Mr. Payne died in 1848 and with her young daughter she returned to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Sturdivant, to make her home. In 1850 she united with the Primitive Baptist church at her old home and has ever since lived a devoted Christian life.
In the fall of 1851, she came with her parents to Boone County and settled on a farm in Worth Township. Here in 1869 she was united in marriage with M. John Long, also a resident of Worth township. To them was born one son, who died at the age of seven years. Some years after this Mr. and Mrs. Long were the victims of midnight robbers who entered their home, bound and gagged them and secured $350 which Mr. Long had under his pillow. No trace of the robbers was ever found.
In 1896 Mr. Long passed away and since that time she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs Jackson Hull, who with two sisters, Mrs Elizabeth Jenkins of Cloverdale, Indiana and Mrs C. L. Lucas of Madrid, one brother John Sturdivant of Madrid, and a number of relatives and loving friends are left to mourn her death.
The funeral services were held from the Christian church at Meadow Grove, of which she was an earnest and devoted member, on Thursday, Jan 16th., conducted by the Rev. Alber T. Fritz and attended by a host of sorrowing relatives and friends. The remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Fairview Cemetery near Madrid."
