The following obit for Laurence appeared in the 12-26-2002 Courier:
Laurence Clifton Nicely, 95, of Bluemont, died Dec. 19, 2002 in the Winchester Medical Center in Winchester. Mr. Nicely was born Sept. 19, 1907 in Middleway, W. Va. to Walter and Dema Whittington Nicely, both of whom are deceased.
He was superintendent of construction for E.B. Friel, where he worked for 30 years in the Washington Metro area. He was a member and former master warden of Grace Episcopal Church and past worshipful master of Treadwell Masonic Lodge #213.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 70 years, Margaret Dillow Nicely of Bluemont; one daughter, Nancy Nicely Slepetz of Charleston, S.C.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Elaine Nicely Shaulis.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 21 in the Grace Episcopal Church in Berryville, The Rev. Canon Dwight L Brown officiating. Interment followed in the Masonic Cemetery in Middleway, W. Va. Memorials may be sent to Grace Episcopal Chruch, Building Fund, P.O. Box 678, Berryville, VA 22611.
