- Probably born at Merther, Cornwall, chr. there in 2 Jan1623 . Named in his fathers will 1624. Research for a Jone who married Richard Penrose at this period has been fruitless.
It is Believed that this Richard is the 1st Penrose recorded in the Redruth Parish Register . Some speculation on the Markes and the Haweis family holdings in redruth have led to conjecture as to how the Penrose holdings in Redruth might have originated. (A Richard Pinnow md Jane Marke of St Columb Major in 1641). Richard probably was the one that was buried in Redruth 9 Aug 1691.
Corruption in the spelling of names is common and may be the reason we cannot locate some
records. One ancestor with a very easy name spelled his surname 4 different ways in his own
will- indicating he did not care how it was spelled. Different scribes spelled names as they heard
them with little heed to spelling conventions. A Thomas Penrose's marriage record was found spelled as Thomas Penson.
