Witty came to Bowling Green, Indiana in 1832, where he raised a crop of corn which he distilled into whisky and also fed to his stock, and he married there and afterward moved to Posey Township and bought a farm of one hundred sixty acres from Elijah [Willis] Wright, another of the early pioneers of Clay County as well as one of the pioneer teachers. The land was located in section 36, and only forty acres had been cleared, and that farm was his home the remaineder of his life."
