Notes |
- Mary Elizabeth Peck was born 15 February 1857, according to her death certificate. She was also listed as age 3 in the 1860 census of Jackson County, Ohio. She was 13 when her family moved to Clay County, Indiana and 14 when her father left the family. On 4 December 1875 at age 18 she married (1) Philip Hamaker. The marriage was performed by R. M. Hollingsworth, J.P. for Clay County.
Mary Elizabeth was known to her family as Aunt Betty.
Aunt Betty apparently cared for her mother and provided the grave site for her mother, who died in 1891 just before Aunt Betty had turned 34. I have no record or information as to Philip Hamaker other than the marriage information. I do not know if he died or left Aunt Betty and I have no record of any children they may have had. There was a child buried next to Amanda according to the cemetery records listed as Infant Irwin buried 24 July 1892 at age 8 months and 14 days, so his birth date must have been about 10 December 1891. Could this have been Aunt Betty’s child? I will have to investigate further.
Aunt Betty used to teach music. Her relatives remember her as a very kind hearted woman.
