      From: Brad Lefler - John Hawes b. ca 1762, M 18 August 1797 in Logan County
      Kentucky to Agnes (called Nancy) Hobbs who was b. about 1775. John's will is
      recored in Butler County on 28 March 1841; his wife is not listed in 1850
      federal census-it is assumed she died between 1841 and 1850.

      John Hawes first appears on tax lists in Logan county, Kentucky in 1795. On 18
      August 1797 he marries Agnes (called Nancy) Hobbs. Records of the county court
      held 21 December 1801. 114-327, notes that John Haws entered 200 acres of
      second rate land on the waters of the Big Muddy Creek. The 1802 tax list notes
      that John entered, surveyed and patented the 200 acres in his name. 1802 lists
      also show Jacob Hawes with 100 acres of land on Panther Creek. Beginning with
      1811 tax lists, the Hawes are shown in Butler county tax lists as Butler county
      was formed in 1810 from Logan County.

      John Hawes will is recorded 22 October 1841 in Butler county. His sons are
      named in the will: Leander, Presleym., Richard C., Samuel Hawes. John's
      widow, Nancy is not listed in 1850 Butler Federal census; it is assumed she
      died between 1840 and 1860. John Hawes gave his land to the community for the
      Hawes Cemetery, Located in Provo, Kentucky.
